Risk Disclosure

1. What Sentry Trader is

Sentry Trader is software that runs on your computer and places trades in your own brokerage account, following the mandate and limits you set. It is not a broker-dealer, investment adviser, commodity trading advisor or fiduciary. This page and the software are not investment advice, and they are not tax or legal advice. Sentry Trader never holds or controls your funds.

2. You control the configuration

You choose the mandate, the limits, the AI models and when to arm automated trading. Once armed, the software acts on its own within your limits, without asking you before each trade. You are responsible for those choices and for every trade placed.

3. Automated and AI trading risk

  • AI models can be wrong. They can misread data, misinterpret instructions, act on incomplete or outdated information, give inconsistent answers, or change behaviour when the provider updates them. A fallback model may be weaker.
  • Market data can be wrong, delayed or stale, and the software may act on it.
  • Software has bugs. Rules that worked before may not suit new market conditions.
  • Outages, latency and lost connections can delay, duplicate or prevent orders. The software runs only while your computer is on and the app is open; sleep, power loss or a crash stop it.

4. Stock and ETF risk

Stocks and ETFs can lose value quickly, and some can lose all of it. Prices can gap past a stop order, so a stop can fill far from its stop price or not fill at the price you expected. Trading can be halted, and thinly traded securities can be hard to sell. Fractional shares may have extra limits on how and when they trade. Your investments are not FDIC-insured, and SIPC protection through your broker does not cover market losses.

5. Crypto risk

If you use Sentry Trader to trade crypto (BTC and ETH spot, where your account supports it), the risk is higher. Crypto markets trade 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including while you are asleep, and prices can move sharply at any time. Crypto is not protected by SIPC or FDIC, has different and often weaker investor protections than securities, and its rules can change.

6. Robinhood Agentic account risk

Sentry Trader trades through Robinhood Agentic Trading. The agent places trades only in your separate Robinhood Agentic account, but it has read access to all of your Robinhood accounts. Robinhood states that you assume the risk of orders placed by your AI agent. Robinhood's approval settings for the Agentic account decide whether trades need your confirmation; turning confirmation off lets the agent trade without asking you. Robinhood's own terms and disclosures for Agentic Trading apply.

7. Third-party service risk

Sentry Trader depends on services you sign up for yourself: Robinhood for trading, Alpaca for market data and OpenRouter for AI models. Any of them can be unavailable, change their rules or prices, or return wrong or delayed data. OpenRouter usage costs money, and an outage can stop the software from making decisions. Sentry Trader is not affiliated with these companies and does not control them.

8. Limits reduce losses, not all of them

Position limits, daily loss limits, stop orders and circuit breakers reduce risk, but they cannot eliminate losses. A limit can fail to trigger, trigger late, or be bypassed by a gap, an outage or a bug.

9. Backtests and paper results

Backtests and paper trading results are hypothetical. They benefit from hindsight and do not reflect real slippage, fees, liquidity or the pressure of trading real money. Past or simulated results do not guarantee future results.

10. Costs and taxes

You pay for OpenRouter usage up to the cap you set, and any broker fees and spreads. Frequent trading can create short-term gains, wash sales and other tax effects. We do not give tax advice.

11. Your broker's rules

Your broker's margin, day-trading and account rules apply to your account. Check them with your broker.

12. Your computer's security

Your API keys are stored in your operating system's keychain. Malware or someone else using your computer could misuse them. You are responsible for keeping your computer and accounts secure.

13. Pre-release software

Sentry Trader is pre-release software. Expect bugs and changes. We strongly recommend running it in paper mode before using real money.

14. No guarantee

No one can promise that any account will make a profit or avoid losses. The decision to use Sentry Trader, and with how much money, is yours. See also the Terms of Use.
